Parents' Night Out

in
Apr 24 2010 - 5:00pm
Apr 24 2010 - 8:00pm

No matter how much they love their children, all parents would love to have an evening together without their children - if only for three hours! Now it's possible for you to have just that.

Parents of young children take turns caring for the children of other couples of the congregation for three hours (5:00 - 8:00). By doing this they all get their turn to have an evening out by themselves in exchange for doing the caregiving every few times. It's a great plan and seems to work very well.

If you would like to be a part of this effort, contact Laurie Guyer. She would be happy to add your name to the list of dedicated parents.

Anch. Rescue Mission Bible Study

Mar 31 2010 - 7:30pm
Mar 31 2010 - 8:30pm

Dave Olson and others conduct a Bible study at the Anchorage Rescue Mission every 2nd and 5th Wednesday nights of each month. This is an opportunity to take God's Word to folks that may not otherwise have an opportunity to her it. This is a fruitful work and we have already had two people who have given their lives to God through baptism into Jesus Christ.

If you are interested in helping with this ministry, contact Dave at 272-7584 or prisonminister@gci.net.

Worship at Spring Creek

Mar 7 2010 - 9:00am
Mar 7 2010 - 10:30am
God is richly blessing our prison ministry as we conduct a weekly worship service at Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward. There are currently five men there that have surrendered their lives to God through baptism.
Under normal circumstances our brother Jessie Killgore goes to Seward on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of every month to take God's Word to the inmates that want to hear God's message. For our five brothers who reside at Spring Creek it is an oppurtunity to worship according to the New Testament pattern and to fellowship with one another and the person who goes into their world to further teach them.

John Coffman's Group Discussion Class Continues

Jan 21 2010 - 7:00pm
Jan 21 2010 - 9:00pm

If you have attended John's Q & A Class before you know what a rich spiritual banquet it is. This class has evolved into a loosely structured group discussion. John is still the fascilitator but different students present their studied material and then John summarizes and adds the results of his own studies on the subject.

This class will continue each Thursday evening through March 25. John and Marlene open their home to those of us who want to attend this wonderful opportunity to learn more about what God's Word has for us to learn.

If you've attended the previous class, please bring your binder and materials for this class. If you haven't attended before, please let John know that you plan to be a part of this next session and he will make up a binder for you.

John Coffman's Structural Analysis Class Continues

Jan 23 2010 - 8:00am
Jan 23 2010 - 10:00am

John's class on Saturday mornings will resume today. The study is called Bible Structural Analysis Through Inductive Study - A Graphics Approach, but don't let that scare you off!

If you want to learn how to study God's Word, come to this class. It is simply a matter of reading the text, reading the text, and reading the text again. Then we let the Scriptures speak for themselves. After reading the text several times it becomes clearer just what it says to us. We don't have to come up with our own interpretation and we don't have to go find out what others say the text means.

We can soon begin to graphically reproduce the text. Graphically reproduce? That just means to put the text into a different format so we can see the depth of each phrase and how it relates to other phrases.

If you're a serious student of the Bible, you won't find a better way to spend two precious hours each Saturday morning for ten weeks.

God Is Blessing Our Prison Ministry

Our congregation has a very active prison ministry. Through us God influences those who are incarcerated and often times their family members. Below are the places where we teach the Gospel each week and those that dedicate so much of their time to this ministry:

Anchorage Jail East, every Monday morning, Dave Olson; Parkview Center (halfway house), CASA every Monday evening, Dave Olson, and worship every third Sunday evening, Dave Olson and others;  Anchorage Jail West (Cook Inlet Pre-trial), Bible study every Sunday morning, different members; Spring Creek Correctional Center (Seward), worship every Sunday, Jesse Killgore; Cordova Center, worship, first Sunday evening, Dave Olson and others; and Hiland Mountain Correctional Center (Eagle River), Bible study every Saturday morning, Marianna Olson and others.

Complete Worship Services on Web Site

On January 18 we began offering our complete morning and evening worship services on our Web site. Before January 18 we recorded only the sermon. But some folks who live in outlying areas use our Web site sermons for their own worship service and asked us to record the entire service. On the third Sunday evening of each month our service is all singing, praying, and a few words at the end to encourage anyone to respond should they desire to do so. Just go online to anchoragechurchofchrist.org, click on “Sermons,” and make your selection. If you would like to have a CD of any sermon, simply click on “Contact Us” and tell us what you would like to have. Please be sure to include your name and mailing address. We will mail it to you at no charge.
