John Coffman's Group Discussion Concludes
This is the last week for this session of John's Thursday night class. We will take a break for a few weeks and then resume. Watch our calendar for the dates of the next class.
CASA at Parkview Center
Every Monday evening Dave Olson, our prison minister, conducts a CASA (Christians Against Substance Abuse) classat the Parkview Center, a local halfway house to which men who have been incarcerated have been released. Dave uses the NewLife Behavior curriculum, which has many courses, each course having 13 lessons. After each class, the students take the lessons and answer the questions, bringing them back the following week for grading.
If you would be interested in learning to assist Dave in this worthwhile work, contact him at the church office at 272-7584.
John Coffman's Structural Analysis Class Continues
John's class on Saturday mornings will resume today. The study is called Bible Structural Analysis Through Inductive Study - A Graphics Approach, but don't let that scare you off!
If you want to learn how to study God's Word, come to this class. It is simply a matter of reading the text, reading the text, and reading the text again. Then we let the Scriptures speak for themselves. After reading the text several times it becomes clearer just what it says to us. We don't have to come up with our own interpretation and we don't have to go find out what others say the text means.
We can soon begin to graphically reproduce the text. Graphically reproduce? That just means to put the text into a different format so we can see the depth of each phrase and how it relates to other phrases.
If you're a serious student of the Bible, you won't find a better way to spend two precious hours each Saturday morning for ten weeks.
Bring your binder and materials from the previous class if you attended it.
Hiland Bible Study
Hiland Mountain Correctional Center is about 15 minutes away from Anchorage and houses women who are incarcerated. Every Saturday Marianna Olson and/or other volunteers go to meet with women for a Bible study. About 15 women usually attend.
This class uses the NewLife Behavior curriculum, which was written especially for men and women are are in prison. It has proven to be very effective in helping to change the lives of those who want to follow a different path from the one that took them to prison.
